Donald Trump announced his intention to impose 50% duties on products coming from the EU starting from June 1. «Our negotiations with them (EU countries) lead to nothing!» he wrote on Truth Social. In his opinion, the European Union «benefits unilaterally» from trade with the United States, which, according to the president, makes business relations with it extremely difficult. Trump also noted that the EU has unfair trade barriers, high VAT rates and corporate fines, as well as «financial fraud» and unjustified litigation against American corporations. All this, according to the president, has caused a trade deficit reaching more than $250 million annually. He called this state of affairs absolutely unacceptable.
