The Central Bank of Syria announced the country's imminent connection to SWIFT

Syria will reconnect to the SWIFT international interbank payment system in the coming weeks, according to the new head of the Central Bank, Abdulkader Husrie. This will be an important step in the economic reforms of the new government and a signal of the country's return to the global economy after 14 years of conflict and sanctions.

According to Khusriye, connecting to SWIFT will simplify foreign trade, reduce import costs and increase the inflow of foreign currency. It is also planned to improve the image of Syria as a financial center, which is important for attracting foreign investment. Banks have already been assigned SWIFT codes, and now it is necessary to wait for the resumption of transfers by foreign correspondents.

The country has also started negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Saudi Arabia and Qatar have paid off Syria's debt to the World Bank of $15.5 million and promised to finance the salaries of public sector employees. In addition, preliminary agreements have been signed with companies from the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar on the construction of infrastructure facilities.
