  • Austria has joined Hungary and Slovakia in the fight for Russian gas. The country has become the third EU country to propose the resumption of Russian gas imports after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. The European Commission previously proposed banning purchases of Russian gas by the end of 2027. Gradual bans may begin as early as this year, which follows from the roadmap.

  • The Bazan Group oil refinery in Haifa has suspended its operations as a result of an Iranian missile strike. According to the Israeli state broadcaster Kan, three people were killed in the attack, and all operations at the plant were temporarily halted.

  • US President Donald Trump left the G7 summit in Canada ahead of schedule, returning to Washington with Secretary of State Rubio. Before leaving, he instructed the National Security Council to prepare for a meeting in the Situation Room of the White House, which is probably related to the ongoing escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

  • Macron said that Trump had given a positive signal regarding new sanctions against Russia. A bill is being discussed in the Senate that would impose 500% duties on countries that purchase Russian energy resources. Nevertheless, Trump himself is not yet ready to impose new sanctions against Moscow, arguing that Western actions are costing the United States billions of dollars.

  • The UK may also impose new sanctions against Russia. Prime Minister Starmer intends to announce new measures against Moscow in order to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine. According to him, the sanctions will be tightened until Russia agrees to a complete cease-fire.
